Changed the flavor that kept them different from Taco Grande, another taco joint by his cousin Mike Foley here in Wichita. Thanks guys for reviving the Tico we all grew up loving!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-411374383982984063.post-63854525540314248482024-03-09T05:15:54.993-05:002024-03-09T05:15:54.993-05:00Wish someone knew the meat recipe.Wish someone knew the meat recipe.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-411374383982984063.post-54918083742120031482024-03-09T05:13:25.016-05:002024-03-09T05:13:25.016-05:00I’ll be, did not know there was one in Gretna.I’ll be, did not know there was one in Gretna.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-411374383982984063.post-23665676622634118612024-03-09T05:05:00.600-05:002024-03-09T05:05:00.600-05:00Yes there was and it might have been one of the fi...Yes there was and it might have been one of the first in Louisiana. One opened in Chalmette a couple of weeks before Hurricane Katrina, I could not believe it. Then, the one in Slidell on Ponchartrain Blvd. which had been there for a long time became another victim of Hurricane Katrina. As you said the one in Metairie on Vets eventually closed several years after Slidell. And now, we, the whole state of Louisiana, have only one left, in Kenner. So very sad. A long time lover of Taco Tico.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-411374383982984063.post-8128837189919233692023-10-08T16:42:10.992-04:002023-10-08T16:42:10.992-04:00We just ate at the Taco Tico in Claremore, Oklahom...We just ate at the Taco Tico in Claremore, Oklahoma today which we do every so often when we feel like taking the 40 mile drive from Tulsa. The gentleman who owns this franchise is staying close to Taco Tico's roots. He has all marked cups, wrapping paper, original menu with few or no variations that we can remember from the 80's. Today the flavors were soooo great. Took you right back to highschool. He also has a cool wall of old memorabilia which is fun to look at. The last couple of times we were there we were disappointed with the flavors, meat especially, but this visit was utter perfection. We thought we were going to have to give up the old nostalgic Taco Tico but found today that it was in full grandeur in Claremoore, OK!! I have fond memories of Mom taking us to that Taco Tico across from that high school in Topeka mentioned above for a tostada and an orange soda with some crustos if we were lucky. In the mid-70s when I went to High School there was one right across the street. I would eat there a lot. I've always liked Taco Tico but I remember then probably around 2013 when they were doing bad and the cleanliness of them was not good. There are only two of them left in Topeka now but it is still one of my favorite places to eat. They have just seemed since post COVID to get stingy on sauces and stuff. They used to have them out in the lobby in bowls and you could get what you want but now they will only give you so much for how many items you get. I always buy more because I love the green chili sauce on my Mexican food. I hope they never close as long as I'm around.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-411374383982984063.post-38832099450179693242022-09-15T18:41:34.740-04:002022-09-15T18:41:34.740-04:00I live around the corner from the one on Elysian f...I live around the corner from the one on Elysian fields, it’s was also connected to the pit theater as a kid we’d buy our taco burgers and sanchos and bring them into the movie in the 70s. I believe the structure remains, but with a facelift. Another location that just closed, seemingly doing great business, maybe 4 years ago was on veterans boulevard in Metairie. I recall reading that a long time ago, Taco Bell used to make beans in the restaurant from dry beans rather than the "boil in the bag" method. A few years I was at a 7-Eleven and heard some employees arguing over how much spice to put on the tacos (they made them in-house, partially owing to the fact it was an acquired store, and it wasn't Stripes), with one saying to put more on because customers liked it that way, and the other arguing to do by the book.Pseudo3Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17848368606946150471noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-411374383982984063.post-8869864977472204712019-04-30T08:27:00.756-04:002019-04-30T08:27:00.756-04:00I'm originally from Anderson, IN, where there ...I'm originally from Anderson, IN, where there were two original Taco Ticos when I was young (in the 70's).
