Interesting how only 4 or 5 years after the sale to Pepsi in 1990, all 5 Kalamazoo County locations closed despite seeming very popular.BradKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10554886789934714703noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-411374383982984063.post-79347919989504522792021-01-22T16:14:45.423-05:002021-01-22T16:14:45.423-05:00They used to have Hot 'n Now in Northeast Indi...They used to have Hot 'n Now in Northeast Indiana back in the 90's. At the time they were selling 39 cent hamburgers. McDonalds took notice, and that was the beginning of the end. At least McD's was able to get consistent beef by leveraging economies of scale. Hot 'n Now - well, their stuff might as well have been the rejected trimmings of horse meat found in the dumpster behind the closest glue factory. It is no wonder that the nickname most preferred around my town was "Rotten Cow".Marchttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15978963481555967572noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-411374383982984063.post-34544251401347731122019-11-08T17:20:06.002-05:002019-11-08T17:20:06.002-05:00Sweet! However I have talk to them more recently asking if they would be willing to sell the brand and they responded as following
"
Jonathan,

Thanks for the feedback inquiry. I will reach out to the owner of the brand name and find out if he is interested in selling it.

Is there an offer price I should site when relaying this information to him?

Thanks,

Mark Petri "

If they are interested then, I can work on seeing if we can find a buyer. First things first. They have to want to or be willing to sell it. Fingers crossed. I will post again here and let you know what they say. We would get a bag of food after a little league game with 10 cheeseburgers 5 fries and 5 drinks for like 10 bucks. It was good. It definitely wasn't fancy but it hit the spot. My parents still live in MI, but I moved away years ago. I wonder if they still have the popcorn chicken? I was a fan of Hot 'n Now, but by the 2000s it was clear that the franchise wasn't going to be around much longer. The Greenville location had closed at the tail end of the decade, during the "Angus burger" trend. Naturally, vandals changed all the signs to "Anus."

The last Hot 'n Now that was even close to nearby was in Mount Pleasant, and the experience was very similar to what you're showing here in the Sturgis location. The signs look the same, including the ones apparently thrown together in Microsoft Publisher and fired off on an inkjet printer. The food was competent, but as you pointed out, speed was a higher priority than quality, and there are no shortage of better restaurants in Mount Pleasant, a college town packed with hungry teens and twenty-somethings.

Unfortunately, that Hot 'n Now went the way of all fast food flesh and was replaced with... something. Maybe a Qdoba or a Popeye's... it's been years since I've been down there. It's not a huge loss, but when a place you fondly remembered as a kid closes down, it always hits you right in the heart.ArugulaZhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02099674283071076123noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-411374383982984063.post-5483629236383422018-06-13T21:33:51.245-04:002018-06-13T21:33:51.245-04:00And Ohio. My tab was around $10.

The 39 cent prices are long gone. I doubt they made it too far into the nineties. The single hamburger that sold for 39 cents 30 plus years ago is $1.09 today. Blame inflation and the loss of a corporate structure. I also imagine they probably made very little or even lost money on the 39 cent items in the eighties. They were meant to attract customers who would ultimately order more expensive (and profitable) items.
