I was sent from my home in Massachusetts to visit my grandmother for a week, and it was clear after about three days that the less I was in her apartment, the happier she was. One day I said I wanted to eat at the "Big Boy," which was only a block away on E. Washington St. I recall her talking about it when it was built and griping about the "noise" and so forth. As for me, I was fascinated by the big happy "Big Boy" outside, and besides, being a hamburger lover, I wanted to try one of theirs. I walked in, sat at the counter, and ordered. Shortly thereafter, a somewhat grumpy looking guy sat about two stools away from me. He got his food as I was finishing up my burger - I-Wish I could remember my thoughts about the flavor. Suddenly the guy coughed with a mouthful, because he spewed bits of food everywhere with a huge chunk landing on my shoe. I began to feel a little sick after looking down, while meanwhile he simply kept eating. Needless to say I paid up and left. And that was it--I never ate in another Big Boy but only because our New England chain was Friendly's (RIP), and of course later the dreaded Golden Arches. From a look at Google maps, the the location of that Frisch's is now a parking lot for a branch office of the Social Security Administration. And the only real memory I have is that darned chunk of food on my shoe.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07377350452693582149noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-411374383982984063.post-83903346787919474872020-03-24T21:00:05.324-04:002020-03-24T21:00:05.324-04:00Thanks for reading. I usually stop at Captain D's when I'm driving through Defiance, but I'll have to give the Frisch's, as well the Shoney's in town a try the next time I drive through. There is also one in Defiance where I grew up and two of my siblings have worked there.
